NEW YORK, NY UNITED STATES
NEW YORK, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Once again, "Live with Regis
and Kelly" and Guinness World Records will bring remarkable record-setting
accomplishments to live television as they kick off the 2007 edition of
"Live's Guinness World Record Breaker Week," August 6-10, 2007.
For eleven years, "Live with Regis and Kelly" and Guinness World
Records have showcased record-breaking, history-making moments. In 2004,
Philbin was honored with the Guinness World Record for Most Hours on
Camera. And last year, the ever-competitive Ripa made Guinness World Record
history herself as she literally smashed the record for Most Custard Pies
Thrown in One Minute. This year, a new group of record holders and hopeful
record breakers will display their unique talents, competing to hang on to
their current records or setting new marks.
The week will kick off with Hall of Famer Suresh Joachim of Toronto,
Canada who will take a shot at setting the record for Longest Karaoke
Marathon (current record: 25 hours, 45 minutes) in "Live's" very own studio
lobby. Joachim, who already has broken an unbelievable 35 Guinness World
Records, appeared on "Live" back in 2005 when he broke the record for
Longest TV Watching Marathon in an astounding 69 hours, 48 minutes.
On Tuesday, bubble artist-scientist Fan Yang, star of the Off-Broadway
"Gazillion Bubble Show" will include Regis and Kelly in his quest to set a
new mark for Most People Inside a Soap Bubble (current record: 35).
On Wednesday an impressive canine, Sweet Pea of Grayslake, IL, will
attempt to break her own record of Most Steps Walked By a Dog Balancing a
Glass of Water (current record: 15). The Australian Shepherd/Border Collie
mix will climb a flight of stairs while balancing a 5 oz. glass of water on
her snout. Sweet Pea, owned by Alex Rothacker, also will attempt to skip
her way into beating another one of her existing records, Most Jump Rope
Skips by a Dog in One Minute (current record: 65).
On Thursday, the record-breaking festivities continue as Tom Sietas
travels from Germany to NY in an attempt to shatter his own amazing 2006
record of Longest Time Breath Held Voluntarily (current record: 14 minutes,
12 seconds). As part of this breathtaking challenge, Sietas will be lowered
into a clear, plexiglass tank and will try to hold his breath longer than
his already unbelievable existing record.
And finally, on Friday, Regis and Kelly will attempt to break the
record for Fastest Time to Duct Tape a Person to a Wall for One Minute
(current record: 4 minutes, 22 seconds).
"Live" has become one of the premier venues in which Guinness World
Records are broken. Such titles as Most Watermelons Broken Using Head, Most
Apples Cut In the Air by a Sword in One Minute, and Most Powdered Donuts
Eaten in Three Minutes are just a few of the exotic records that all have
been attempted or surpassed on "Live."
Guinness World Records is the universally recognized authority on
record-breaking achievement. First published in 1955, the annual Guinness
World Records book is published in more than 100 countries and 20 languages
and is one of the highest-selling books under copyright of all time with
more than 3 million copies sold annually across the globe. Guinness World
Records celebrated its 50th anniversary edition in 2004, a year after the
sale of its 100 millionth copy. The Guinness Word Records website
(http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/) receives more than 11 million
visitors a year. Guinness World Records is published by HIT Entertainment
Limited, a fully integrated global studio with divisions in the U.K., U.S.,
Canada and Japan, including broadcast production and distribution, video
and audio sales, consumer products licensing and marketing.
"Live with Regis and Kelly" is executive produced by Michael Gelman and
distributed in national syndication by Disney - ABC Domestic Television.
Produced by WABC-TV in New York, "Live with Regis and Kelly" airs in more
than 200 markets across the country.
